Meet the Team: Norrie McLeod
Meet Norrie McLeod, our Business Development Manager across Scotland and the North East of England.
Norrie McLeod - Business Development Manager, Nu Style Products and Perform Panel
It’s hard to believe it’s been 6 years now since I joined Perform Panel. It really has flown by, and I guess that’s because no two days are ever the same, it’s a really busy, varied role.
I joined the Nu Style family in 2017, after having worked for over 20 years in paper manufacturing sales. A very different industry - seems like a different life now!
But actually there’s lots of similarities. In terms of the products – paper and wood, and also the mechanics of the industry itself. And my background, specialising in distributor and merchant sales, is very much what I do now for Perform Panel.
There is quite a bit of fluidity in that role here, but essentially, the core of what I do is taking responsibility for sales right across Scotland and the North East of England. We have also made initial strides in Ireland.
And although we’re very much a new kid on the block there, we’re already working with some major accounts, and we want to develop our presence there much more. So, all that comes under my remit too.
I particularly enjoy that side of things - building for the future and helping create even stronger foundations for the company to continue to grow. We’ve already got great people and a great ethos to build on here. And I see it as my job to make sure that we have the foundations to go on to even bigger and better things.
At the moment that means developing more new accounts and forging new relationships with different clients. And also with some of our main accounts, where the aim is to be the lead supplier for them, particularly in Scotland.
Also in Scotland, my aim is continually explore new opportunities and we’re working on developing further penetration into the social housing market.
So yes, as you can see, there’s always a lot going on, and lot of different projects that need my focus, day to day.
The thing I like doing most is sitting down face to face with people. Obviously Covid meant a lot had to be done on either the phone or via Teams but nothing beats talking with someone in the same room and telling them about ‘Today’s Alternative to Tiles.’ And we’re getting back to that now, much more!
So generally, a typical day will mean appointments with customers and merchants, social housing decision makers and so on.
I have to maintain relationships with the key depots, but also try to bring on the depots in a business who are either not using us, or not using us enough!
It’s been a challenging couple of years but along with Covid, there’s been a boom in home improvements, so what we do has been in higher demand. Long may that continue!
When I’m not doing all that, I like to go down to the gym or get out on the golf course. If that’s in Spain, even better... And we’ve got our first granddaughter now, the apple of her Grampa’s eye of course!
